Spectator

What is it about "liar" that you don't understand?

The Spectator would like to offer this Jimmy Carville paraphrase to the Kerry Campaign staff: IT'S HONESTY, STUPID! While the strategy team is blundered around looking for the hook for the final fifty days, it is painfully obvious that the issue of George W.'s credibility has yet to be addressed. It's a good thing for the Shrub that Pinocchio was only a fairy tale otherwise the president of the United States would be carrying around a schnoz the size of a redwood. Here's the Cliff Notes version of Bush's estrangement from the truth for you to gnaw on:

Iraq - Bush lied about everything. No WMD, no chemical weapons, no nuclear stockpiles - nothing; but in the Bush version - everything! Now that all the premises for war have been debunked, the president says getting rid of Saddam Hussein was worth it all by itself. Worth the lives of more than 1,000 Americans and countless Iraqis? If that was the case, why didn't he just say that in the first place? Oh, that's right. He did and when no saluted the regime change flag, Bush lied to get us into war.

Long Term Prospects in Iraq - When Gen. Eric Shinseki said that it would take two to three hundred thousand troops to win the peace in Iraq, he was fired. Continuing developments in the combat zone indicate Shinseki was right.

Prisoner Abuse - The new Seymour Hersh book is the smoking gun that the administration knew of and allowed the prisoner abuse in Iraq and at Guantanamo.

"Mission Accomplished" - When Bush was caught with his pud in his hand after declaring an end to major combat, his staff said the sailors on the aircraft carrier were responsible for the giant sign. When the sailors said "Bullshit!" the White House admitted they commissioned the sign.

His military record - Bush sat across the table from Tim Russert and was asked if he would release his complete military record to put this issue of his AWOL to rest. He responded "of course." What he meant was "of course NOT!" To this minute, the Associated Press is still pursuing a Freedom of Information request to gain access to all the files. The Pentagon - the keeper of the files - is not even responding to the AP lawyers anymore. That's being done by the hacks in the White House. There isn't a sane human being on the planet who believes that if the record showed that Bush did what he was supposed to do in the National Guard that every syllable wouldn't be released and made into campaign fliers. The converse is also true. If Bush is fighting so damned hard to prevent us from seeing the records, the records prove he is a liar - that while he rushes to war in Iraq, he did everything he could to avoid even minimal service in Alabama.

Kerry's Military Record - With no record of his own, Bush reverted to form and merely attacked the record of his opponent. Then he lied about not being part of the "Swift Boat Veterans for Bush" smear campaign. Subsequent to the Bush denials, his campaign attorney was forced to resign for having advised the lying sailors. An admirals used in the ad was revealed as a lobbyist for a company tp wjocj the Bush Administration just gave $40 million in defense contracts. Two other liars in the ads are employees of Bush's Department of Veterans Affairs. Anyone still wondering why Bush refused to denounce the attack on Kerry's heroism?

Cheney and Halliburton - Sitting in the same chair from which Bush lied to Tim Russert, Vice President Dick Cheney did the same thing (is it the chair?). Cheney said he absolutely had no connections with Halliburton, was not being paid by Halliburton, and didn't know Halliburton was going to be awarded the no-bid contract in Iraq. Within 24 hours, the Government Ethics Office reminded Cheney that he was still receiving deferred payments for Halliburton and memos from the Defense Dept. indicated that Cheney had been aware of and cleared the deal with Halliburton.

The Prescription Drug Program - Bush deliberately lied to Congress about the cost of the prescription program.

Clinton Folks Exit Vandalism - After a great hue and cry in the press about the vandalism supposedly perpetrated by departing Clinton staffers, all such claims were disproven.

On the environment, on assault weapons, on issue after issue, the "compassionate conservative" has lied to the American people. How many other issues can Buffalo Report readers think of when the president demonstrated scant acquaintance with the truth? Kerry needs to start naming the deceit, the duplicity and the dishonesty of this mendacious bunch.
