Arrest George Bush

Bill Hogan, a regular reader of Buffalo Report who lives in Cork, Ireland, called after the most recent round of Abu Ghraib torture photographs was published in his local newspaper to say that he was appalled and dismayed that the U.S. president and secretary of defense had asserted that their unilateral abandonment of the Geneva Convention had some legitimacy under law. "That was the basis of the Nuremberg trials," he said. "When leaders of government said they and their country were immune to international rules of law and agreements." We said, "We can't publish a telephone call in Buffalo Report, Bill. Write it and we'll put it up." He did, and here it is.

Dear Editor,

As an observer of the American scene and aware of your poignant and diligent service to a free media in the United States I request that you publish my urgent request for the arrest of George Bush and all top collaborators in his criminal regime.

Because the United States has not signed the International Human Rights Convention and related instruments I call on the citizens of the United States to arrest George W. Bush and put him on trial on the basis of the Nuremberg Principal — that a head of state or minister of state many not commit crimes of war or crimes against humanity, that they shall be held accountable for their actions and that there shall be no impunity from the law regardless of position.

What is happening to the people of Iraq is unacceptable by all standards of International Law and the Nueremburg Principal. Torture and murder are used in state and federal prisons in the United States. Now American techniques of mind control and torture have spread to Iraq, Afganistan and Guantanamo Bay. It is incumbent on people who believe in law and justice, especially in the English-speaking world, to demand the immediate arrest of George Bush otherwise the seeds of vengeance and retribution will be firmly planted.

Now is the time to speak out.

ARREST GEORGE BUSH!

If George Bush and members of his renegade regime enter Europe I call on responsible judges and officials to issue the writ and warrant necessary for the arrest and process of this tyrant.  May he be sent to the Hague and be tried as a war criminal.

Best wishes,

Bill Dady Hogan

PS: Some of us are making a request that George Bush be arrested when he arrives next month at Shannon Airport, an appropriate location because that's where the Irish Government has been allowing U.S. military planes and jets to rest and refuel en route to Iraq. The use of Shannon for this vicious war represents an abject violation of Irish neutrality. There have been massive demonstrations at Shannon since the war began. We want Bush to be sent to the Hague to be tried as a war criminal. All opposition parties here are now questioning the advisability of his upcoming visit. We are asking the Irish Police to arrest Bush rather than manhandle peaceloving demonstrators.
