I don't know if I can completely agree with Mr. Barth's assertion that "no movie ever turns your head around." I recently saw Kuraswa's "Ran" for the first time on the Big Screen (at the newly renovated Castro Theater, a smaller version of Buffalo's Shea's). "Ran" knocked my socks off!!! I'd liken it to Ulysses, Hamlet, Vertigo, Divine Comedy, etc, etc, truly a masterwork, a cultural monument, a must-see...

On the other hand, on further reflection (Mark vs. Marc?) more books have "turned my head around" than films.

On the THIRD hand, more pretty women have "turned my head around" than either books or
movies....
